i'm interested to know where in the world you feel most at home.
where is your favourite place, city, town, country, whatever.
and why is it your favourite?
For me it has to be Edinburgh.
i was there only last week and not for long enough.
The people are friendly and there's so much history.
i enjoyed it a lot more than London because of the fact that there were a lot less people and there was more of an atmosphere.
The Scots are a lot of fun.
The best part was going round learning about all the events which shaped the country. the history is not widely known in australia and that's why it was so much fun to go there.

Hmm strangely enough I love Auld Reekie and also Belfast the Irish are some of the friendliest people I've ever met, they will wait until you have had a sip of the delicious Guinness then engage you in conversation, as if you were an old friend. As they would say it's great craic!

Hmm, so many cities have their unique charm though, it's really hard to choose. I really liked Barcelona when I was there and Valetta (the capital of Malta) because it's so old and full of history and feels somehow as if it hasn't change since the 1200, I like a lot of European cities, London, Zurich, Copenhagen, they all have similar charm, that of history and hundreds of years of "cityness" and it's fun to walk through them and just feel the history all around you. San Fransisco is fun, LA and New York are impressively big, especially New York, just walking through it you feel immersed in a sea of people, and, obviously, after a certain very intensely romantic and bizarre night the downtown of Toronto holds a very special place in my heart, but that would be purely on a personal level.
I'd say, go see New York City if you can, it's amazing, and then at least one old European city and check out Barcelona or Palma for the Spanish charm. I yet have to visit Sevilla but it's definitely on my list of cities to visit.
cheers
-B

Yay, Sevilla is on his list. That means it's on my list of places I'll get dragged to. *grin* Not that I'm complaining, of course :-). I really loved Hong Kong. I've only been there once and it was before the Chinese take-over, but that city was amazing. It was a total melting pot of cultures and colours and ways of life, I just didn't know where to look and what to check out first. I really like my hometown, Zurich, for its old-world, kind of elegant, but quiet charm. And I love Bordeaux, one of thsoe cities that have a huge past but are now all but forgotten, and at every corner you stumble across these amazing architectural and historic landmarks that are just sitting there as if they were no big deal. Oh, and of course who could forget Halifax!

I would say that i am more a village fun than citty because i don't like noice and vilages are closer to nature but i think my favorite citties are Athens and Thesaloniki. They are in ~Greece. There is good food there, good music to go and listen and i like it. I went to Athens to see my cousin when he was studying there and it was fun.

New York of course, because I live about 40 minutes from it and go there a lot. There's always so much to do and the place is so vibrant all the time. I also like Louisville Kentucky, I've been there twice and like the Southern charm and how everyone is so friendly.

I liked spending time in Mexico when I went with my Family to visit relatives from my mo
ms's side of the family. I mainly remember we spent most of our time at Monterey and Salamanca. I liked the friendly atmosphere, and just that it was so different from home. Everyone seemed to spend more time together, and we even went walking around and went to an old church and saw a valcanoe, and I don't know, just being there felt nice to me. If any stuff was going on there like it is now, we didn't know about it then. but yeah, I would like to spend time in Mexico again, and it would be especially cool to go back to Salamanca. *smiles* Another place I kind of like is Austin. Actually, I just like that there seems to be more awareness about blindness in that it seems easier to get around there, and there is just probably more available for blind people. But it also seems too quiet there, so in that case, I like my hometown of Sanantonio because it's nice, yet there is always something going on, always a celebration or festival. *smiles*

Yeah I wish I could be in New York someday. It must be awesome. What is the most shopping paradise?

Post 14 by Perestroika (Her Swissness) on Wednesday, 03-May-2006 6:24:14

i too am a quiet place kind of person, that's why i live in the blue Mountains.
there's a lot of diversity here when it comes to culture, music and politics or philosophy, but at the end of the day it's a nice quiet place without being to quiet.

hmm, not beeing much to the big city, but so far, prefer Adelaide the best. i'm now in Brisbane, but miss Adelaide so much. miss the kind of quietness and kinda of peace feeling. miss the beach, miss the whole envirement, and i think, the city structure of Adelaide is better than Brisbane. even though Adelaide is a small little city compare to city like Sydney, or Brisbane but yet it have the own beauty on it.

Edinburgh it's called Auld Reekie due to the smog which once hung over the city..Reekie refers to the smoke from 1,000's of chiminies

Hi. Nobody posted here for a few days so i thought it would be good to add another question here. Appart from citties we like that we already have been it would be good to see what citties we would like to visit and why. Personaly i would like to visit one day the Turkish citty Instambool. I am not sure why i want to visit it. This citty seams to have a lot of history and places to see. There is a mosque called Ayia Sofia which was Christian in the past and i would like to visit it and other places as well.

I would like to visit Watertown MA, because I would want to visit the Perkins School for the Blind, especially the library and the museum if they have one. I would also like to visit other countries, particularly in Africa because I think it'd just be interesting, the different cultures and everything.

Oh how could I forget London. I have only driven through London once but i have never ever stayed there and I would love to. Any city where you can do shopping ... rules. Lol

Post 21 by Puggle (I love my life!) on Friday, 05-May-2006 16:26:27

well in my very limbited experience. I loe Perth for personal reasons, Sydney will always be a fantastic city, and thoughs who are far more traveled than I agree, Melbourne has it's own charm, of course London because of it's histery. but I've really not got one that tops the lot so far. still so much more to see.

Hmmm, as for favorite cities I have been to? well, I haven't been to that many cities, but my favorite city would probably have to be Las Angeles, California, or Austin, Tx. Las Angeles is just so big, and full of life, yet not quite as scary as say, a new York, or a toronto, lol. As for Austin, nah, it's not to quiet actually, you just have to know where to go, I know Austin like the palm of my hand, Austin Tx is like my playground. Anyways, as for cities I would like to go see? Hmm, well, here are a few:
St John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Sidney, Australia. Paris France. Probably all of Ireland. Orlando, Florida, USA. Miami, Florida, USA. Datona beach, Florida, USA. Alcapulco, Mexico. And that's just a few.

My favorite city is Orlando. Lots of amusement parks and plenty of lesbian clubs.

I like Columbus Ohio where I currently live. Moving from a small city to a big city was awesome. I like it here because I have a lot more friends, and plus the blind community here is much much bigger.
